We are currently in the midst of an epidemic of personally-generated metabolic, musculo-skeletal and mental health dysfunction. That's the bad news. The good news is that if a dysfunction has been personally generated there is a good chance that it can be personally-ungenerated.

We're advocating the use of smart technology so individuals, their doctors and fitness practitioners can keep track of vital diagnostic and prescription markers. The technology is now there to remotely monitor whether a person is 'taking' their aerobic fitness prescription.
The diagnosis and treatment of poor metabolic health often begins and ends with the discovery of a symptom - high blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar ... But without an assessment of aerobic fitness or diet, the enquiry into the causes of the major signs of metabolic dysfunction is compromised. And if the diagnosis is compromised then it's likely that the prescription will also be compromised.
Of all the tests of metabolic health, the test of aerobic fitness is the most critical. The medical industry will measure everything but - weight, blood pressure, blood glucose and blood cholesterol but only on the rarest of occasions, aerobic fitness. If it is measured the test will be complicated and expensive.

Most doctors are unable to pinpoint the cause of lower back pain. The lead given by the National Health and Medical Research Council is less than helpful.
Being unable to determine the cause, doctors send their clients off to the radiologist. The radiologists don't know where to look for the cause of the problem either. Worse still, because of a demarcation dispute between radiologists and general practitioners, the radiologists are constrained from giving an opinion as to the cause of the problem.
The radiologist will only tell the doctor 'what 'is'.
The clients returns to the doctor with the X-ray. The doctor looks at it, parrots the radiologists comment - but still doesn't know what's caused the problem. Likely as not they'll blame a recent incident, like lifting something.
When it's all said and done, the best the doctor can do is recommend a range of manipulative therapies. However, lower back pain is not caused by a lack of rubbing, crunching, heating, vibrating, strapping at the site of the pain. Neither is it caused by a lack of doping.
Finally the person ends up in front of a surgeon, Not knowing the underlying cause of the problem the surgeon recommends surgery. It's known as the Mandy Rice Davies option.
To cut a long story short a $100 problem ends up as a $20,000 problem, most of the cost being funded by the tax payer. In America it may end up as an $80,000 problem - and if you troll the back pain chat rooms, the number of people who have had a back operation and are still in pain is legion. Wrong diagnosis leads to wrong treatment.
Ask any group of people how they rate the current condition of their musculo-skeletal system and 50% will give themselves 5/10 or worse. Most have no idea of the cause of the problem, other than to reveal an incident from either the recent or dim, dark past. Some will blame their age. Few will blame themselves.
A high proportion of cases of musculo-skeletal dysfunction are personally generated. Over the years and decades, peoples' muscles become weak and tight, causing bones to move out of alignment. That's the bad news.
The good news is that with the right strength and flexibility exercises there is a good chance that bones will move back into alignment. Stress will be taken off joints. Pain will dissipate.
Only on the rarest of occasions is joint and muscle pain caused by a lack of Glucosamine, Celebrex, Voltarin or Endone.
